Hi Ed, I am sorry to disturb you with my probably stupid questions but after reading your website thourougly (long hours of instructive reading), I must say I am now bewildered at the guitar universe around me (and I thought I new alot!).
As is turns out, I happen to know nothing, but I would like to be informed of a few things:
As I am only 14, my budget is limited and on top of that, I live in France, where--and I'm sure this isn't news--guitar prices are sometimes double what they are in the US because of stupid customs. I am going to the US this year, and was planning to buy a fender standard strat for 349$ against the French 560 euros or 600$
And then, I come on to your website and see not the usual ranting and raving about Fender but more like a criticism of the brand and I have to say, after seeing the Pearlcasters, and upgraded strats you have produced, I can only agree with you. But my problem is that I fixate (youth, hypocrisy who kows...) and when I set my mind on something, I have a big knot in my stomach the moment I decide to change my mind. And I am really troubled about this because I would hate myself for hesitating over a great guitar just because it doesn't have the fender logo on it (but what can I do, that's the way I am). As I can not afford one of your illustrious looking and probably sounding guitars, I would like to have an opinion on what I should buy but first a few question about Fender:
_We both know that Fender is a massproduction enterprise and that they produce large public guitars. But honestly, you don't expect them to produce guitars with as much move and care that custom guitar makers do? As a mainstream guitar brand, they're not bad right? I mean, I love your beautiful finishes and wood on the guitars exposed on the website, but for me, the looks (besides a stupid logo!!!) were never as important to me as the sound of the guitar, now I know that the quality of the wood most of the time has to do with the sound but I don't have a billion dollars anyway so I really shouldn't worry about that!
So, as for the sound of Fender, many very well known guitarists use them and I am sure they are way more knowledgeable than I am so here is my question:
How come all these famous guitarists keep using Fender or Gibson (or their custom shops perhaps, which are really not custom shops because they only propose their own patrts) when they could have your fantastic guitars? It certainly isn't savings holding them back! So it must be for something right? If you could please explain why, I would be very grateful.
As for what I would like to play (on my I-don't-know-yet-which-guitar), I like to play pretty much all styles of music except metal, but especially 60's rock, blues and jazz.
I would like to get your opinion on what would be a good guitar knowing that I have been playing for two years on an affinity squier strat with a fender 15w dsp amp.
Knowing also that my budget is not infinite and that I have maximum 450$ to spend on a guitar, and about 450euros to spend on an amp(except I have to buy that here because it wouldn't get by customs and because it would require a different voltage than that offered in the land of cheese!
Oh, and one more question, you say somewhere in your site that Europe is about seven years behind the USA in terms of guitars, what do you mean by that? That we have yet to try custom made guitars or that Fender, Gibson, and PRS aren't actually the best main stream brands?
Anyway thanks in advance for your help, if you do not have the time to answer I wil understand but could you, in that case, forward it to one of your very competent helpers, associates? Thank you
Sam from the land of expensive guitars.
et voici sa réponse qu'il a mis plus d'un mois a m'envoyer!!!
