In 1970's, a boom in hardrock was happened in Japan and Greco started to
make Gibson and Fender copies energetically, then they became the best
brand in Japan by making copies of almost all models of Gibson and Fender.
Gibson and Fender were known the best two brands in Japan at that time of
course but they were too expensive for average people. Greco made electric
guitars popluar and closer to people in Japan by their various of price range
of products.
Greco improved at a stretch in their designs and qualities after1975.
Greco and Ibanez were made by Fuji gen-gakki co. and there were many
guitars which were the same except their brand logos. The famous Ibanez
Destroyer (explorer), Modern and Korina V models were made in this time
and Greco had the same models as well.
A special feature of Greco guitars in mid to late 70's is that most of Z
them had small necks for matching with Japanese hands.
We called "replica race" was started in late 70's. Most of brands who made
electric guitars in Japan started to make "replicas" of vintage Gibson and
Fender instead of copies and they stack to it because it was the key to
survive themselves in the industry.
Greco started "Super Real" series in 1980. These models were evolved in
details and Greco kept being the best brand with "Super Real" replica
guitars.
The Super Real series were shifted to "Mint Collection" in 1982 and
replicas of Fender were disappered at the same time.
Greco is stabilized of poplarity in a market of used Japanese guitars because
of their qualities, high level of making replicas and variety of models.
Greco guitars have many differences in their specs for the year of made and
the model numbers and it is one of elements to have fun with Greco guitars.
