Sound: 10
Currently my music style is based around alternative genre such as Hendrix, Led Zep, RHCP, Silverchair . I run this guitar through a VS65R Marshall, cut back on the gain to get a Frusciante esk sound. There is a hum in 2nd and 4th position on the selector switch, but ive got totally used to it, and dont even notice it now. I played quite a few strats and i beleive this one to be the best tone- wise. This guitar has a clasic strat sound, wonderful tone, real good bright REM-type sound through bridge pickup, and nice warm bass sound through neck.
Action, Fit, & Finish: 8
This action on this guitar is sweet enough for me, not to slow, not to fast; but if I was more inclined to breakneck speed solos, i'd whip it down to my guitar shop to get a slightly faster action. Aside from this there is nothing I consider to be wrong with this guitar, the finish is distinctively unauthentic of a 50's strat, but to be honest I dont really give a s**t.
Reliability/Durability: 10
I purchased this guitar in 1997, and have since beat the s**t out of it on a regular basis, playing in college and university bands. It has been dropped more times than i care to remember, and still plays as well as the day I bought it.The finish has chipped off where it has been droped, but I am confident that this strat will never fail me and i would definitley gig without another backup guitar.
Customer Support: N/A
I have never needed to get it repaired/re-setup.
Overall Rating: 10
I have been playing for 7 years, and since buying this guitar I have bought a '62 Jap re-issue jaguar and a 1996 Les Paul Studio, yet still turn to this guitar; might explain why i've only bothered to write a review of this guitar. I paid £350 for this strat, in a summer sale 1997.In order to afford this guitar I worked full time at Pizza hut during the summer before college so i'd be really pissed if some cheeky bastard nick it! Someone metioned to me that there are something like 30 different type of fender neck types and that when you find the right one, you know it straight away, this is so true with this guitar. This guitar is the one. A lot of people are still under the impression that japanse strats are'nt as good as USA models.. check em out you might just like it.
