Price Paid: 199 (Canadian)
Purchased from: N/A
Some store in hamilton ontario (it was a gift)

Features: 7
I believe this guitar is the standard barracuda strat copy with 2 single coils and a humbucker in the bridge position controlled by a 5 way toggle switch. There are two tone controls and one volume control as well as a standard fender style bridge with a whammy bar attachment.

Guitar has 21 frets on what is actually a surprisingly smooth and easy to play medium/thin neck that is bolted to the guitar. It is black with a white plastic pick guard. I think the guitar looks prety good for the money spent on it.

Sound: 3
This guitar has a horible horible sound. No matter what pickup is selected there is a buzz. Lights, computer monitor or anything else that emits any sort of interference affects this guitar.

When used with a distortion pedal this guitar produces a very loud and annoying feedback very very easily, making it difficult to use live. I feel that there is some sort of ground issue (or lack of one).

Action, Fit, & Finish: 7
This guitar is cheap. Cheap body (finished in black) however it has held out as I have had it since 1995 and it sees action everyday. There are a few nicks and dings but that is to be expected on any guitar that sees continous usage.

The action is pretty good producing very minimal string buzzing especially when the low e is dropped to a d or a c.

Most of the coating has come off of the poles in the neck position single coil pickup, but that might have something to do with my playing style.

Reliability/Durability: 5
One very important aspect of live playing is for a guitar to remain in tune, and with the exception of very frequent string breaking, this guitar has ALWAYS remained in tune.

As mentioned above, this guitar has been terrible in respect to strings breaking. I have had it in the shop several times and the bridge has had everything done to it short of being replaced entirely to try to stop this problem. It has NO reliability as far as string reliability goes (I broke a string before writing this for that matter) and I have probably spent as much on strings as this guitar is worth new.

The strap buttons are not very good on this guitar. They are a little on the small side and to make up for that I have had to resort to duct tape to keep the strap from falling off. The bottom button fell out years ago as the cheap wood the body is made of was not able to hold it in very well. The top button is working its way out too.

I have played two live shows with this guitar. It made it through one without breaking a string. I would not trust this guitar without a backup.

Customer Support: N/A
I have never bothered to contact customer support, nor do I know if it exsists.

Overall Rating: 4
I have been playing guitar since 1991-92 (I think)

As far as gear, I own the following:

1969 Harmony Hollowbody Acoustic Electric
1972 Gibson Southern Jumbo Acoustic
Oscar Schmidt OG-2M Acoustic
Above mentioned Barracuda Strat Knock-Off

Peavy Bandit 112 Stage Amp (older style)
Digitec RP100 Effects pedal with Bespeco volume pedal

I recieved this guitar as a gift, however I would not recommend it to anyone. It is a pain because of the amount of time I have spent replacing strings and it really doesnt sound that good either.

Price Paid: 235.35 (CAD)

Mothers Music, Edmonton

Features: 8
I believe this guitar was made in 2001, no way of knowing though. there are 22 frets, 1 volume and 2 tone selector knobs and a 5 way selector. The finish on this guitar is absolutely beautiful. Its a metallic blue with a pearloid pickguard. This guitar feels very comfortable to play - sitting down or standing. Tuners and all other hardware are gold or brass plated. Not sure what type of wood was used, some kind of soft/light wood. The neck is super for any style of playing, be it bends or heavy power chords, everything seems easy on this fretboard.

Sound: 8
This guitar suits almost every style that I play. I play everything from blues to metal, with pop excluded I run this guitar usually through a Behringer V-AMP2 and into a Roland CUBE 15 practice amp or else I plug it into the cab head through the V-AMP2 if I'm doing a gig. You do get alot of buzz using the bridge pickup if you are near fluorescent lights or computer monitors, but a flick of the switch and all buzz is completely eliminated. For cheap single coil pickups, these things get surprisingly good sound. This guitar is completely suitable for any blues playing, any note sounds more or less perfect on this guitar. What I dislike about the sound is definitely the buzz from computer screens and monitors on the bridge pickup as that is my favorite pickup to play with. The sound is very rich and ear pleasing. I prefer the sound of this guitar to my real Stratocaster and it was a fraction of the price.

Action, Fit, & Finish: 9
This guitar was basically: take out of the box and play. The set-up was almost perfect. My only complaint about this guitars set-up was the 17th,18th, and 19th frets needed some filing. The pickup selector does give you a slight click when you switch pickups but in the middle of a song its not noticable. Like I said, the factory set-up was nearly perfect.

Reliability/Durability: 7
I am 100% sure this guitar withstands live playing. The finish is good but this guitar DOES dent easily. I dropped a belt buckle on this guitar from about 4 inches high and it left a dent. This guitar has been dropped a few times, due to the fact of the unusually small strap buttons. They are very solid but most straps don't agree with them. Straplocks are a must if you have this guitar. I have found this guitar to be dependable on several occasions and have used it for gigs in the past and will probably use it again. I never play without a backup but if a problem arose and I couldn't have a backup, I'm sure this guitar would shine through. I give this category a 7 because the guitar dents so easily and the useless strap buttons.

Customer Support: N/A
I have a 3 year warranty on this guitar so the company DOES exist. I haven't had to deal with customer support so I can't really give this category a fair score. I have not been able to find any websites for the company though so I think that customer support would have to be obtained from the dealer where you bought it.

Overall Rating: 8
One thing I wish that this guitar had is a humbucker or suitable shielding in the bridge pickup. This guitar is however, a great stratocaster copy and like I said, plays better than the real Strat I have and others I've played. I love the finish on this guitar, it looks so....expensive! If this guitar were stolen I would probably not replace it because I have several other backup guitars. I think it definitely is worth replacing though. This guitar will work for a beginner or an experienced player like myself. If you want any other information about this guitar, please feel free to email me.

Sunburst finish, cheap hardware, cheap tuners, cheap everything else

Sound: 1
Single coils generally trade off drive for clarity... well this puppy missed the boat apparantly, very thin weak sound, even with heavy strings.

Action, Fit, & Finish: 1
I think the fret board is made out of cobblestones instead of rosewood.... frets bouncing up all over the place, neck warped. Impossible to set up even half assed. And forget about intonation, truss rod ajustment has all the precision of walrus syncronized swimming.

Reliability/Durability: 1
I wouldn't gig with this guitar if it was the last one on earth. Doesn't hold tune.

Customer Support: 1
Who the hell is Barracuda.... no website that I can find

Overall Rating: 1
What a piece of s**t..... there are a lot of low line guitars that are worthy for a beginner.... this isn't one of them. It's hard to believe that somebody could actually sell this and NOT be embarrased, quality control apparantly doesn't apply here
