BloodSugarSexMagik
(1991 Warner Bros.)
Equipment
A more mature and grown up Frusciante used a large variety of equipment for BSSM. To compile everything that was used during the BSSM sessions would be extremely hard to do. Listed below, is what is known to have been used:
Various Fender Stratocasters, Marshall stacks (Bass Head and Guitar Head together), Original Crybaby Wah Wah (Used on "Naked in the Rain" and "BloodSugarSexMagik"), Boss OD2 Overdrive pedal, compressor and chorus pedals, 12 string Maton acoustic on 'breaking the girl' and a red 1969 fender jaguar, Soul to Squeeze is played through a fender twin reverb, The majority of the songs on this album are played on the neck pickup position
This is one of the most important albums of the 90's. It was one of the groundbreaking albums of our era, creating a new and exciting sound that is still considered as revolutionary in not only the rock industry, but the whole music industry as well. Ballads such as "Under the Bridge" & "Breaking the Girl" and funkrock fusion tunes like "Suck My Kiss" and "Give it Away" will be always looked at as ahead of their time.
At the end the century, BSSM was voted by a well respected German music magazine as the best bass album of all time. It has also graced practically every top 10 list for "Best Rock Album" & "Most influential" album of the 90's and of all time. You can thank the chili's here for heavily inspiring the rapmetal movement of the late 90's. Various members of 311, Korn, Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, Incubus & many other bands have been quoted as saying the RHCP as one of their biggest influences. This is also where John developed his own personal technique during this album.
The emotion and life put into these tracks is indescribable to say the least. Without John, BSSM would have never happened and the rock scene would have definitely sound different coming into the 21 century. John leaves in the middle of their 1992 Japan/Euro tour. Life as a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers abruptly ends here and a whole new chapter begins...
