I saw Dinosaur Jr last week on sunday (May 28th 2006)... I had the opportunity to see everything on stage when at least nobody was in the hall - saw the Bradshaw switcher, all three full stacks, etc... I even had the opportunity to speak to Js guitar tech, who to me seems to be one of the nicest and kindest persons ever met in this business... - sort of "anti-Josh Homme-ish", if he had the time he would have told me at least EVERYTHING about Js rig and his tricks...

So the rig itself basically has been the same as THAT

but with a small change - there would have been a third fullstack, again two standard 1960 Marshall cabs with a very suspicious head that´s been covered in black tolex and had a Fender tweedish looking panel - this amp is a 100 watt Tweed Twin cicuit in a head, custom made by the Victoria amp corp. - his regular 80 watt 212 Tweed Twin wasn´t loud enough...

On his rack there was an additional (according to the roadie "crappy but loud") Silverface Twin Reverb used as monitor if J wouldn´t stand in fron of the cabs...

He used two Jazzmasters - his black glittering with the gold anodized pickguard and the gold tune-o-matic bridge and his purple glittering refinished main Jazzmaster (the one with the stickers on the red tortoise shell pickguard) with the black p´up covers...

His pedalboard consisted of:

a very sturdy looking router for the guitars
his grey Crybaby looking wahwah (don´t remeber what brand those are)
a Boss tuner set to bypass
his standard Bradshaw switcher (like this one
the looped effects listed on the switcher are:

a Big Muff (only ONE!!!)
an MXR blue box
a Super Vibe
an EHX Electric Mistress
a Tremolo
a Boss Reverb
his rackmounted Line6 Echo Pro,

so he definitely stripped down his effects use... he used quite often the Flanger, the Tremolo and the Supervibe, I heard several Delay settings and never the Blue Box (at least at this gig)... I heard at least 3 different Marshall JMP presets - one fendery sounding twangy, one semi clean and a crunchy one...

c'est une pédale eprmettant entre autres de jouer une basse aux pieds. Le groupe ayant perdu leur bassiste il y a quelques temps, ça serait compréhensible.

Le bassiste de Muse possède un équipement similaire lorsque le groupe joue Unintended. En effet, c'est lui qui joue la rythmique à la guitare, résultat, il doit faire la basse aux pieds.

When it came to guitar amplifiers all the Death Metal guys told me that the way to get the "right" (trendy) sound was to use Marshall amps, and since I didn't like that sound I bought a Pivee (Pivey?) amp and used that instead. On "Filosofem" I didn't use a guitar amplifier at all, but instead used only the amplifier on my brother's stereo (that of course was not intended for that use) and some old fuzz pedals.

Très utilisée dans le rock progressif surtout, jouée par le guitariste et/ou le bassiste, afin de produire de grosses nappes de basse profondes. Ca permettait au bassiste de pouvoir faire autre chose même si le son n'a pas grand chose à voir avec une basse mais justement, la somme des deux était puissant (enfin je trouve, c'est sûrement super ringard maintenant et je doute que Dolly l'utilise comme ça)

hier soir est passé un concert récent de Metallica sur Mtv 2, et apparement Kirk recomence à avoir des pédales sur scène (à part la wah, of course).

Le bassiste de Muse utilise un pédalier basse sur scène.

I walked into the rehearsal space, and saw more gear than I think I've ever seen on a stage. On the right, was Jamie Kime's (sp?) rig, 2 Bogner Shiva combo's. His pedalboard was modest, RC Boost, Boss Octave and Delay, and a couple of boutique pedals that I didn't recognize. He played a Les Paul through the whole show. Even though he had more of a support role, when he did get the shot he played some really nice stuff!

In the middle was Dweezil's rig with two Cornford amps, an RK100 and an MK50 with a rack in between. On top of the rack was a Blankenship (I think) 18 watt head. He had two racks, one between the amps, and one that was behind his amps, and a Bradshaw switching system. In the front rack was a TC2290 and an Eventide H8000. I couldn't see the other rack, but Dweezil said that it had a bunch of "pedals and stuff", the only one he mentioned in peticular was the Tech 21 XXL that he kicks in for leads. He played an SG for the whole show, and blue Strat for the last song.

On the Left was Vai's rig. Vai is one of the only players that I've ever seen actually use their signature gear. He had three Legacy heads, two on and one spare. No racks, but his board had a G System, Bad Horsie wah, AnalogMan SD-1, Keeley TS9DX, EVH Phase 90, Peterson Strobostomp, and two silver boxes with no names on them. Vai used his white Ibanez FLO (not EVO).
