Kalmah - The Black Waltz

Two years has passed but as we promised there is more to come and now it is about time. Today we started the recordings of our fifth full length album. We started to work on new material almost two years ago and since we do not want to hurry it took the time to put every piece of the puzzle together. We have had great time to work with the new material as always. We did a demo a month ago to prepare ourselves for this main session. The demo worked out well and we are very confident about the new material. There is 9 new swamp metal songs to record.

Janne has started to work out the drums and today we managed to record drum tracks for three new songs. Tomorrow we continue on working on the drums and we have six Kalmah songs to record + one cover.

Later on we will reveal the title of the album, song names, videos and images, so, stay tuned!

After searching the good base sound for drums and right places for mics Kuisma started beating the drums on Saturday. We continued on Sunday and everything was recorded by the end of the day. Right now we have drums and demo guitars on track. Demo guitars will be removed as soon as the real shread takes place.

Recordings continue at the end of this week. I and Pekka start to record rhytmn guitars. After that the plan is to record guitar melodies and solos.

Like always we had to test every possible combination of cabinets, pedals and mics to set up the rhytmn guitar sound. At the end the tests fail as usual and the basic "good-proven" combination is the best. Nevertheless it is always worth to try. After we found the sound Pekka started to work on his rhytmn guitars and worked pretty fast as usual.

Later this week I start to record rhytmn and lead guitars. I guess I`ll record most of the solos as well. Check out couple of new pics in gallery.

We had a month break as you may have noticed. Meanwhile we had to chance to listen carefully recorded guitars and drums which was good. We have always recorded albums within continuous period. I found this way better because there is time to get used to the sound and maybe fix something or add something if desired.

Anyway right now we have done all recordings. There wasn`t enough time to update the diary before but here we go. Last week Marco did keys and Lede did all bass tracks. Pekka started to test vocals on some tracks as well. At the end of the week bass and keys were done and it was time for vocals and rest of the guitar solos. Last saturday we did group shouts and had fun as always! Thanks for the official Kalmah pig unit!

On sunday Pekka finished vocal parts and we checked the tracks after that. Sounds pretty damn good so far.
