Product: J&D Jack And Danny Brothers YC LS-1Price Paid: 177 (EUR) Submitted 08/19/2005 at 09:48am by Stephan Features : 8 I have the lefthanded model (LS-1-L), but the features should be the same. It's a Les Paul Copy in Cherry Sunburst (nice!). These are the features as listed on their site:Construction: Left HandBody: Alder or MahoganyNeck: Maple or MahoganyFingerBoard: RosewoodScale Length: 628mmRadius: 350mmFrets: 22Machine Head: Kluson Type, Die-CastTremolo: Tune-O-Matic BridgeHardware: ChromePickups: Chrome, CeramicPickguard: Humbucking x 2, IV P/GuardControls: 2 Volume, 2 Tone,3 Way Toggle SwitchingNow I don't know if mine's alder or mahagony but it sure is heavy! If you look from the side you can see the body is made out of 5 pieces of wood. But it is wood. :-) Sound : 8 First of all I put 010 strings on it.Without amp it's very resonant. Nice full tone.I will try to compare it to my old Ibanez RG470 which is equipped with DiMarzio and Duncans is made of lighter wood and has a tremolo. The J&D sound much thicker through an amp. The cleans are warmer and the distorted sound is, well also thicker, also alittle less bright. It is more of a rock guitar not so much a metal axe.The sustain is great! Very long.I must say that the pickups were microphonic (they squealed if you used loud, distorted sounds). But I knew that since the previous reviewer wrote that and so I wax potted them. Now the neck PU is quiet. The bridge almost (maybe I'll pot it again?)That beeing said, the pickups sound ok to me. The bridge is rocking and the neck is veeeery thick, maybe al little too much so. My rating is based on the wax potted version. Action, Fit, & Finish : 6 The guitar was set up ok.It had a very low action. Right on the edge of buzzland. So, I made the action higher. I'm also used to higher action. I don't like it too low. There ware to little flaws:1. there's one (exactly one!) fret that still buzzes.2. the fretwire edges were sharp. But I was prepared for this so I filed them down and now it's.Oh, and there is a minor finishing flaw on the side, but that doesn't disturb me. The top looks great. Everything else was allright. Even the routing is well made. The guitar looks beatifull! After filing down the fretwire edges it would be a 7-8. Reliability/Durability : 10 Haven't played it live yet. I'm still not sure how well the wax potting of the bridge pu worked. I will either pot it again or maybe change the pickup. But then i will surely use it live.Reliability??It's made of wood. It's heavy. It's bolted together well. So I think it is reliable, after you have done something against microphonic pu. Customer Support : No Opinion Overall Rating : 8 Alright, you get a great guitar for 177EUR (~200$).If you can deal with the fretwire problem and the microphonic pickups by either potting them or changing them, then I can recommend this guitar.I don't know how it compares to Epiphones, Gibsons or other Les Pauls. (Being a lefty I can't just go into stores and play them :-(. )But you'll get a solid, playable, good sounding guitar. Product: J&D Jack And Danny Brothers YC LS-1Price Paid: 3000 (Swedish Crowns) Submitted 05/21/2003 at 05:56am by Robert Fasth Features : 7 I've had it for little more than a year and a half. It's a Les Paul Goldtop copy. It has the early goldtop color (NO bullion gold) and a bolted thin (60's) neck. But other than that it looks like a '57 with humbuckers.I've recently found a photo of it... ... along with other J&D guitars.
http://shop.akk.ru/instr.php?t(...)p=1It's a russian site, so I don't understand what they say. But it'll give you some idea of what it looks like.Sound : 7 Acousticly it sounds alot like a Les Paul. But plugged in you can hear the difference alot clearer. It doesn't sound necessaraly bad, but it sounds a little different.I think the humbuckers has alot to do with it. Personaly im thinking about repacing them. Not sure with what, just yet. They allso have have a tendency to glitch (the signal spikes) sometimes when playing through a wah-wah or at high volumes.Action, Fit, & Finish : 6 To be honest I don't remember how the action was when I bought it. But it's a Paul - it's suposed to be low.The fretts are way to sharp, not that you cut yourself on them. But they could sure have been done alot better. Could be worth grinding down. The finish is ok, considering what I payed for it.The tuners are exceptionly good. Still im thinking of replacing them with groovers. Just for the look of it.Reliability/Durability : 8 I havn't played it Live. But I think it can withstand a lot.I have accidentaly knocked it in to the wall a few times, but without any marks so far.The electronics seem to do fine, except for the humbuckers, as I mentioned earlier. And little problem with the pickup switch. But it was easily solved. Customer Support : 3 None, what I know of. I guess you have to get in touch with the store you bought it from. According to Swedish Law there IS A TWO YEAR WARRANTY!Overall Rating : 8 I've been playing for about three years. I own a Fender Bronco, Peavy Classic 30 and a Gibson Les Paul Standard 2002.You can't compare it with a real Gibson, though. But it is a good backup!!!Personly I HATE the Epiphone heads. This one has a "real" Gibson head, in my opinion. Except for the logo of course. This was the main reason I bought this guitar ( i didn't know better back then ). But im not sorry. ;-)If it were stole or lost i would try to get a hold of a nother one. But this time as a "Sunburst", and with a glued neck. If J&D has one???!!!It's a good guitar if your willing to work on it, or if you don't have such high standards. Considering the price. Showing 1 - 2 of 2 reviews
