http://www.myspace.com/hughwilson

http://www.myspace.com/hughwil(...)jehan

Citation:

Nah its all Les Paul, through a Fender Blues Jnr (small, very low wattage) on the main gtr that the piece starts with..
Maybe a vintage MXR 10 band eq pedal before the amp, probably cutting 250 hz range and boosting 1.25 to 3khz range..
Probably Preamped thru Mesa Boogie Rectifier Recording, but mic's on Shure 57's in front and C4 on the back, and then playing
with the phase of those mic's.. Most of the other parts are all eq'd compressed, and filtered mainly through the Calrec,
to and from Pro Tools HD.. Any delay FX and room reverb would be from an Eventide Eclipse,

Pure sound of Valves (Tubes) and a lot of them.. 2 sets, can't be beat.. not really sure why people keep trying to model them
especially when you start getting multiple amps and valves etc.. they really play into and then against each other, and thats
without mentioning a speaker(s) moving air.. that is a whole other bag of tricks.. and then using several mic's to play with
phase and recreating the sound of a speaker moving in the speakers you are listening too..

On the Extended Version Bill Schnee recorded the guitars for the back end using a mic on the back one on the front and one room
couldn't tell ya what they where.. exactly the same amp, but i think i used a RAT pedal and a Kelley compressor..
dude it was a while ago now.. Maybe a bit of the Johnson Amp Modeler.. Again all played on the Les Paul Studio Custom 3 Pickup.. From 1981..
Funnily enough i could never really get the same sound that was on the very original piece, so even the remix is based on the guitar and the
sound that the piece was written.. go figure..

Just in case the Acoustic's where recorded through a C3 Studio Projects, into a Neve, and then the Stereo Pair was fed back through
a GML 8200 (Hardware) Parametric, it really makes them glisten.. The Bass is a Spector S2 from around 1986.. it was DI'd (on the extended)
through one of Bill Schnee's Special Valve things (which was enormous) and also sent to the Fender in the room.. at a very low volume..

John (JR) Robinson played drums on the extended version, and where recorded by Bill Schnee as well.. Both absolute master's of their given art..
Bill has his own Studio in LA .. with the mic pre's at the drum kit, a beautiful live room (ex Larribe), and his own custom console..

Hope this helps..
