Toujours le dossier "Le Setz et son matos" (où il parle de son dernier modèle Signature Lacquer Vintage Orange) :
Q : Are you happier with the Setzer line of Gretsch guitars since Fender purchased the Gretsch company?
BRIAN : I have to tell you that Mike Lewis over at Gretsch or Fender/Gretsch, whatever you want to call it, is a musician. He's actually a great blues player. He's really done everything humanly possible....ok....it's like if I knew Mr. Coca Cola and I said, "I don't like the way your Coke tastes, can you change it? (laughing) Mike's done everything I've asked him to do on my models, from changing back the trestle-bracing to make it like it was back in the 50s, to all of the tricks that I've come up with in the past 30 years of playing Gretsch guitars.
The new SSLVO (Setzer Signature Lacquer Vintage Orange) is about the best guitar I've ever played. It's back ordered, you can't even get them...I DON'T HAVE ONE!!....(laughing harder) I only have the proto-type, they're THAT backordered! It takes 40 days for the paint to dry on these things. It's like painting a car, it's lacquer. You have to "wet sand" between finishes. Just the finish alone take 40 days to dry! They had to relearn how to use lacquer on these guitars. Nobody shoots lacquer anymore!
Same thing with the Hot Rod models. Again, I really don't think you can buy a better guitar. I've played tons of new guitars, from Fender to Gibson and I don't think these Gretschs were made this well in the 50s. I just think that they are fabulous playing guitars and I really don't know what more they can do to make them better.
