Voici enfin une bonne nouvelle pour les fans d'Anvil.
Could 'Anvil!' be the next 'Spinal Tap'?
Even though I'll miss most of the film festival at South by Southwest, there are a couple movies I've been told I must see. One of these is Anvil! The Story of Anvil, a documentary that could be this year's greatest rock movie. It follows Anvil, a Canadian metal band that has been performing together for almost 30 years.
After you watch the trailer, you may think Anvil! is a mockumentary, but it's not. Director Sacha Gervasi once worked as a roadie for the group, and he reunites with them to show "the reality of their day-to-day lives as they struggle to make ends meet, take a misguided European tour, and engage in antics on the road -- which is not always lined with fans."
Sounds a little like This Is Spinal Tap, right? Viewers have noted several similarities to the 1984 movie, including references to Stonehenge and turning amps up to 11. (One funny coincidence: The drummer's name is Robb Reiner. TIST 's director: Rob Reiner!) Considering Gervasi is a successful screenwriter -- he penned The Terminal -- one has to wonder whether any of this material was scripted, too.
Artists who pay tribute to Anvil in the film include Slash, Lars Ulrich and Lemmy from Motorhead.
Anvil! arrives in select theaters April 10. (Check the official site to find out when it comes to your city.) This week VH1 announced it had acquired exclusive rights to the movie, which means it will premiere on TV this summer.
