"Yep, some DX models came with a Gold in the middle. I
made a joke on the site about Fender being
inconsitant. Some times peole replaced the middle
pickup, some came that way by special order, or some
just simply came that was. You see it more in the
early DX Plus.
You are correct that you read that DX models came with
a D in front of the serial number. That info is from a
Fender serial numbering book. Again, it is so funny
that on the Plus series they came out with a DX and
even the Ultra models and NEVER put the D in front of
the serial number. I am thinking tye used that more on
the "American" series and never on the Plus series.
The 1st ultras did not Ultra on the neck plate and
then it appeared sometime in 1992.
I should post this on my site as you are
correct....but then dealing with Fender, one never
knows if you are 100% correct or not! Add to that that
people swap out necks, change pickups, and hybred all
kinds of parts, which creates lots of confusion for
those wondering what in the world is this!"
