Il y a un truc qui me chiffone, plus je regarde, plus j'ai l'impression que les frettes sont grosses, ainsi que le manche par rapports aux autres strat' en général...

Je délire ou pas ?

Merci!...Je te confirme que la N4 que tu vends a appartenu à Sle@zy car j'ai failli la lui acheter,elle m'est passée sous le nez d'un rien .

Les frettes sont des jumbos.. donc oui, elles sont un peu plus grosses que sur une strat.. par contre, le manche n'est pas plus gros, enfin je trouve pas...

pour la N4, j ai rendez vous demain, je la toucherai et je vais pouvoir vous dire comment elle est .
d apres ce que j ai compris, il est alle la chercher aux USA.

j'ai trouvé cette page en utilisant le 'google' - j'avais recherché pendant longtemps un padauk n4 maintenant, et le AM actuel aux Etats-Unis pendant 3 mois ainsi voulez essayer de saisir un maintenant.

i have read nearly all of this thread (using a mixture of my bad french and google translation ) and am confused about the new 'paddy' padauks that are available...

boogie street and adiron dack both have them in, and adiron dack is much cheaper @ about $1279!! boogie is $1600!

but i asked for a picture of the ones adiron dack had in, and i received this:



The one on the left is a nicer colour, but the Stevens Cutaway is written in black??? The one on the right is flawless but looks so orange, as mentioned earlier. They both look nothing like THIS!!!:



No thick dark veins in the wood, and it's confusing. I don't know where to find a padauk in the USA!! I can wait on ebay but that's a big chance for many reasons. I cannot return it if it is faulty, etc etc

Can anybody advise me what to do? The n4 on the right looks nice enough, but is very orange in that picture, and isn't quite what i was expecting...

I want the darker grain of padauk! Will this one get darker? Even if it does, it will nto suddenly grow veins

Or perhaps a nice alder version, like the one we saw earlier, that i copied here to my webspace:

nice to see people from another country joining this thread .
Unfortunately, you'll have very few chances to get a hand on a "dark" padauk as it seems all the new padauk N4s made by washburn are build in a younger wood than the ones they first made. Now they all (for all i know) have that "orange" look.
Actually i have one i bought from Adirondack last year. Once you have it in your hands, it seems a bit darker than the picture, but still far from the real "dark" you like. Anyway, the guitar is still nice .
So, to make it short, the only way for you to get a "dark" N4 is to get a used one from 1993 or 1994.

So, in the first picture, there is a N4 Padouk (A reedition model) on the right. On the left, I don't have any idea about this model, this is the first time that I saw it (I've never saw a Padouk model with the Stephen's inscription in black color) !

For the second picture, it's just a N4 Padouk (reedition too) but this one looks beautiful. So if you want a nice wood, you've got your eyes ! Some models are really lovely, and others are ugly... It's your choice ! Now, if you want a Padouk model with a dark grain, maybe you should search a model of 93/94, most of these guitar are really dark.

In the third picture, I think that it's an Ash model, no ?

i love the dark veins running on the 2nd picture (in the case)! that is what i am looking for. i have seen sleazy's much darker n4 padauk, and while that is amazing, the chances of me finding one is very low! there are no real n4's on ebay now selling 2nd hand, only shops....

i guess it is just a case of finding a new paddy/padauk with a grain which i like.... but those are the last 2 adiron dack will ever have

the grain on them is a bit nicer - but again with the black 'stephens cutawy' bit. strange also, the neck doesn't looks a bit lighter, not real ebony/black?

i haven't seen that either, the black stevens, but now i've seen it twice! maybe i just never paid attention before...

As you may have read earlier in this topic, I did get one from Boogie street. I can tell you this : Those BSG pictures have been taken with one hell of a flash light ! 'cause in real life, no way they'd look orange, .. at all... Of course, those Paddies are quite clearer than old 94' ones, but they are still quite beautiful. :-)

And here's a picture where the color looks way more similar to the dark red color that I actually happen to see everyday :



Also note that padouk wood has tendency to darken when exposed to sunlight,... so you might wanna get a tan on it ;-)

As far as the sound is concerned :

Alder : Nice balanced sound, with precise high ends
Padouk : Darker sound with a little less high ends (sounds a little bit like a mahogany N4 would)
Sleazy will confirm that older Padouk may sound even more dark.. No doubt about that since the wood happens to be quite different.

BTW :


No this is not alder ;-) .. this is swamp ash actually, which is quite white with big veins as you can see on the picture, and the sound is quite brighter than alder (from what I've been told, never actually tested one).

BTW, looks like some recent Padouks have black writting (on both the cutaway and the head)... Personnally, I prefer the white logos ;-)
... also.. what's with that red/black zebra '59 looks like crap
