Mother Mourns Death Of PANTERA Fan Who Died Helping DIMEBAG DARRELL - Dec. 15, 2004
Susan Bray, mother of Nathan Bray, one of the four victims of last week's nightclub shooting in Columbus, Ohio, has contacted BLABBERMOUTH.NET to thank the heavy metal community for their love and support during this very difficult time.
While most concertgoers rushed for the exits after guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was shot by a longtime fan of his former group, PANTERA, Nathan Bray (photo), 23, jumped up on stage, held Abbott and tried to perform CPR, according to the Associated Press.
"When (Bray) looked up at the shooter that's when the shooter shot him," Adam Vanover, 45, of Bellefontaine said.
Witnesses and police said a group of people tried to help those who had been shot after Abbott's band DAMAGEPLAN began playing at Alrosa Villa last Wednesday night. Police shot and killed the gunman, Nathan Gale, 25, of Marysville.
Susan Bray's message to BLABBERMOUTH.NET reads as follows:
"My name is Susan Bray. I'm Nathan's mom. I would like to thank everybody for their love & support. I gained the strength to talk to the news because nothing was being said about Nathan. Everybody that personally knew him were not really surprised at his selfless action. His favorite band was PANTERA and he would have been there come hell or high water. Nathan and his friends are truly great young men that love the music and concerts were one of their passions.
"I was informed of this website and it really helps to know of the support of strangers also and that the compassion in human beings still exits. I didn't know how to get on the chatroom, but I hope this will go there.
"I am so proud of Nathan. He holds such a big part of my heart. He has been a hero his whole life and when I am able to, I will contact the officer who ended the life of the monster that killed my baby because it would be really unbearable to know this 'dirty piece of shit' would be walking around.
"The most important person in Nathan's life was his son, Anthony and that little guy worshiped his daddy. It blows my mind that he will miss his growing up. Not only me, but the whole family will make sure that Nathan will not be forgotten. God bless Nathan's wife, Kerri, who is loved dearly. She will be the main influence of dealing with this tragedy for Anthony.
"I couldn't possibly include everything I wish to say and all the people involved in his life.
"****RIP*** MOM"
Bray's funeral was held Saturday (Dec. 11) in his hometown of Circleville, about 30 miles south of Columbus.
