Lobby Loyde - Plays With George Guitar - 1971


De l'acid rock joué par le premier guitar hero Australien, Lobby Loyde, qui a aidé à sculpter le son de groupes classiques locaux comme Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs et Rose Tattoo (de 1979 a 1980), tout en ayant une carrière pleine de succès en tant qu'artiste solo.
Il décède en 2007 à l'age de 65 ans.

Connu pour sa technique au médiator, Loyde a inspiré une légion de musiciens Australiens et a été cité comme une influence par des musiciens internationaux comme Kurt Cobain ou Henry Rollins.

Quatrain - Quatrain - 1969


Quatrain était un groupe de garage acid folk psychedelic originaire de la vallée de San Fernando, formé en 1963 comme The Fourth Shadow par les membres fondateurs Don Senneville et Eric Pease.

L'album a été conçu et produit par David Briggs, le producteur de Neil Young durant des années.

De 1965 a 1967, le groupe changea périodiquement de nom et de personnel.

Broselmaschine - Broselmaschine - 1971


Bröselmaschine est (toujours en activité) un groupe Allemand formé en 1968 par Peter Bursch , le maître allemand de la guitare acoustique.

Leur musique est inspirée par le folk américain de Bob Dylan , Joan Baez , Phil Ochs et Joni Mitchell.
La formation comprend la chanteuse / flûtiste Jenni Schucker (superbe voix), Willi Kissmer au chant, guitare et sitar, Lutz Ringer metallaphon et basse, et Mike Hellbach congas, tablas et Mellotron.

Leur LP éponyme est un merveilleux album acoustique, aux subtiles finesses folkloriques : indiennes, du Moyen-Orient (sitar, tablas, flûte), traditionnelles Irlandaises/Écossaises (mandoline, harmonies vocales), une musique folk psychedelic/progressive joyeuse et très cool avec guitare acoustique, flûte et alternant chant féminin et masculin.

Eyes Of Blue - Crossroads Of Time - 1968


Débutant comme un groupe soul de Neath (Pays de Galles), The Eyes Of Blue a graduellement évolué vers un son west coast.

En collaboration avec Quincy Jones, ils ont contribué a la musique du film 'Toy Grabbers' et ils apparaissent plus tard dans un autre film 'Connecting Rooms'.

Leur album est assez diversifié avec de la pop, du R'n'B, du jazz et de la musique classique, psychedelic et des influences orientales.

Les meilleurs titres sont "Love Is The Law" et "Crossroads Of Time".
Il y a aussi des bonnes reprises de "7 and 7 is" de Love et des Beatles "Yesterday".
Le morceau "Prodigal Son" est très inspiré aussi, avec une guitare Psychedelic sonnant très orientale.

A noter également "Largo" qui a été un slow a succès en France en 1968, très inspiré de Bach, c'est un morceau qui donne envie de courir tout nu dans un champ de fraises.
J'adore le Mellotron.

The Corporation - The Corporation - 1969


Leur premier album éponyme est sorti début 1969 et montre un groupe compétent voire virtuose, avec des mélodies originales.

L'album a eu un bon succès régionalement dans le Billboard Chart du Milwaukee dont ils sont originaires, mais n'a jamais réussi a percer nationalement.

Le point culminant du disque est une reprise Psychedelic de 19 minutes et demi d'un instrumental de John Coltrane : "India".

Après cet album, ils en enregistreront encore deux : Hassels In My Mind et Get On Our Swing.

Buffalo Springfield - For What It's Worth - 1967

Un classique du psychedelic qui était beaucoup associé a une lutte anti-guerre (du Vietnam).
Les harmoniques du début sont hypnotiques.

En 2004, le magazine Rolling Stone classe For What It's Worth à la 63e place dans sa liste des 500 plus grandes chansons de tous les temps.

Bruce Palmer - The Cycle Is Complete - 1970


Alors là..., c'est un cas, on pourrait presque dire que ça ferait un bon support promotionnel anti drogue : "regardez ce qu'a fait Bruce Palmer les enfants, la drogue, c'est mal et accessoirement, on peut se retrouver a faire des albums de grand malade comme celui là."

Après s'être fait écarter du Buffalo Springfield pour abus de drogues, le bassiste Bruce Palmer s'entoure de la moitié des musiciens de Kaléidoscope (U.S. p.25) et de Rick James pour cet album dont il a composé les thèmes de 3 longs ragas improvisés : "Alpha-Omega-Apocalypse" "Oxo" et "Calm Before The Storm"

The Cycle Is Complete est formidable mais c'est un échec commercial total et un album sacrément barré !

Je le situe un peu comme un album de grand brûlé, sur le même plan que celui de Skip Spence "Oar" ou des deux albums solo de Syd Barrett.

Ils émergent de la scène rock psychédélique de San Francisco grâce a Jerry Garcia (le leader du Grateful Dead) qui partage avec eux les mêmes influences Country et qui voulait jouer de sa Pedal Steel Guitar.

En 1972, ils sortent un excellent album "Gypsy Cowboy"

Group 1850 - Paradise Now - 1969


Ce groupe Néerlandais de la Haye prend le nom de Group 1850 en 1966.

Rapidement, il s'impose comme la formation psychedelic la plus aventureuse des Pays Bas dés le premier 45-tours "Misty Night" en novembre 1966.
Ils ouvrent pour un concert des Mothers of Inventions de Frank Zappa en décembre 1967.

Enregistré, édité, et mixé durant un long weekend d'octobre 1969 chargé au libanais rouge, le deuxième album de Group 1850 Paradise Now apparait comme un repère de crue d'une psychédélia européenne.

Paradise Now est tout aussi remarquable que son prédécesseur "Agemo's Trip To Mother Earth" mais cette fois, c'est la rencontre du Pink Floyd de Syd Barrett "Lonelyness", avec l'acid-rock du Quicksilver Messenger Service, "Hunger". et, cerise sur le gâteau, un morceau de 11 minutes dans l'esprit Blues-Psyché du Voodoo Child de Jimi Hendrix sur Electric Ladyland.

En ouverture, la suite "Paradise Now"/"Friday I'm Free" est un des grands moments du psychédélisme européen.
Les tablas, la flûte, les guitares délicates, l'orgue de "Martin en Peter" /"?!" évoquent Pink Floyd dans "A Saucerful of Secrets" et "More".

Le morceau "Purple Sky" ne cache pas ses influences sans faire déshonneur a Jimi Hendrix, passant d'une signature blues "Voodoo Chile" a un clin d' œil a "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn to Be)".

"Well I float in liquid gardens
And Arizona new red sand"

Il y a une cohésion d'ensemble dans la mesure où l'album semble se découper par sections : partie Iron Butterfly, partie Saucerful Of Secrets, part Electric Ladyland, part Guru Guru, part Can circa Monster Movie...

The Moving Sidewalks - 99th Floor - Flash - 1968

Je profite de la réédition de l'album en 2022 pour revenir sur le premier groupe de Billy Gibbons, alors quasi imberbe , avant qu'il ne forme ZZ Top.

En 1966, découvrant les 13th Floor Elevators, il abandonne le répertoire de reprises des Coachmen , dont il change le nom en Moving Sidewalks, pour explorer ce nouveau genre musical diffusé par son ami Rocky Erickson.

En 1968, ils sont régulièrement programmés en ouverture d'artistes renommés comme Ten Years After, les Doors et Jimi Hendrix, une autre de leurs influences majeurs.

Jimi Hendrix a rencontré Billy Gibbons et l'a adoubé, disant de lui "que c'était le jeune guitariste le plus prometteur" (ou quelque chose comme ça )

Après ces deux singles, l'album "Flash" parait fin 1968, ce fut un échec commercial.

En 1969, 2 membres de Moving Sidewalks sont incorporés dans l’armée Américaine, provoquant la fin du groupe.
Billy Gibbons reprendra la route sous le nom de ZZ top, intégrant Franck Beard et Dusty Hill (R.I.P), deux anciens membres d'American Blues.

"99th Floor" est excellent, j'adore.
Billy est effectivement moins barbu mais je remarque aussi qu'il préfère un col montant afin de ne pas être pris un "redneck".

J'aurais bien proposé l'album The Doughnut in Granny's Greenhouse de Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band mais c'est peut-être plus psychedelic pop que rock.

Tout l'album Flash est bon, allant du blues (Joe Blues) a du psychedelic débridé (Pluto Sept. 31st), le tout sous influence Hendrix, tu peux l'écouter page 29.

Et oui, tu es observateur et toujours ce sens du détail !
Le col roulé peut en effet cacher que l'on est trop bronzé, parce qu'un paysan toujours au soleil peut apparaître comme un plouc, un bouseux Texan.

A une époque en France aussi, être trop bronzé était mal vu, c'était être un roturier, toujours dehors, alors que les nobles se poudraient le visage et cherchaient à être le plus blanc possible...
Actuellement, c'est le contraire, si tu es blanc comme un cul, c'est que tu n'as pas assez d'argent pour partir en vacances

Bravo après Powerhouse, tu m'as encore fait découvrir un autre groupe, le Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band , j'en avais vaguement entendu parler mais jamais écouté donc je suis allé a l'écoute de "The Doughnut in Granny's Greenhouse" et j'aime beaucoup , c'est burlesque, délirant avec un humour surréaliste/absurde préfigurant les Monty Python

...J'entends de la fuzz, du Mellotron... j'adore "We're Normal" et "The Trouser Press" notamment.

Wikipedia définit le style de l'album comme "Comedy rock, psychedelic pop, trad jazz, avant-pop, experimental pop"

Écoute, si tu a un peu de temps, ça serait cool que tu fasses un post avec un peu d'explicatif et un visuel de l'album, et si tu as moyen un lien YT d'écoute comme tu avais fait pour Powerhouse, c'était top .

Edit : le Titre "The Doughnut in Granny's Greenhouse" serait un euphémisme pour "les chiottes au fond du jardin chez mémé"
