You're right I could have found something better than "at your own risk" only I'm in Quebec right now and they translate EVERYTHING litterally from English to French, I guees it's had unconscious repercussions on my speech

Perso j'ai réussi à avoir un bon niveau (--> à une présentation orale cette année j'ai eu une meilleure note que certains élèves billingues ) ; en cherchant des textes de chansons, en les chantant et en regardant un paquet de films et de séries en VOST anglais ou français, puis en VO tout court ...

Ouais moi faut que je bouge un peu mon ass, que je commencer à watcher a bit des films...

that's exactly what I've been complaining about throughout my studies. So now my challenge is to enable my pupils to survive in an English-speaking environment without forgetting that they're gonna have to take the bac and write all the bullshit that's required for text commentaries.
By the way, this text analysis thing is the main activity we do in high school because we take for granted that, after 5 years of learning English, the kids master the basics and that very often is NOT the case!

...and to spice it up, we're supposed to do that with only 3 hours a week

Au passage l'expression "at your own risk" est completement juste, ce n'est pas uniquement une traduction litterale (l'expression existe aussi en anglais).
