Product: GuitarHeads Active Humbucker

Features :

* Single coil or humbucking? Active or passive?
* Impedance or other specs?

57K Black epoxy coated active Humbucker

(57K by my voltmeter)

Instrument :

* What model guitar or bass did you install this in?
* What position is it in?
* What pickup are you replacing?
* Other pickups installed on the instrument?
* Any artists using this pickup?
* Reason for changing the pickup?

Installed on a Zyons Dream Guitar (ZDG) custom built Teleblaster.

Solid body bolt on neck:
Wenge top
Beech center wood
Spalted maple back
Beech neck
Cocobolo fret board.

It???s wired in conjunction with a passive single coil

Sound : 9

* What's the output level like?
* What amps and effects are you using it with?
* Tone - Bassy, middy, muddy, trebly, balanced?
* What style of music do you play? Is this a good match?
* For which positions is this pickup (un)suitable?

I found that this pickup is a perfect match for the wood it was matched up with. Beech tends to have the same tonal characteristics as hard rock maple. I noticed that the pickup was missing the high end sizzle that the EMG81 and 85 have.

The lows were boosted and the mid range was very Zakk like. (isn???t that the only reason anyone goes active.?

Since I wired the active electronics in conjunction with a passive sing coil, I???ve wired it with its own independent 25K volume and tone pots which ensured everything sounded smooth.

I wired it in the bridge position.

I truly think the sound out plays the EMG 85 and 81. I have installed well over 100 EMG setups and I???ll be offering these an a valued priced alternative.

My heart still lies with passive humbuckers but if you want an active sound, this is the pup for you.

Overall Rating : 9

* If it was destroyed or stolen, would you buy it again or get something else?
* How long have you been playing? What other gear do you own?
* What do you love about it? What do you hate?
* Did you compare it to other products? Which ones? Why did you choose this one?
* Anything you wish it had?
* Are you satisfied with this pickup or still searching for that sound?
* Anything else you'd like to share?

Some negative things:
I like the quick disconnect that EMG offers. It allows for quick swap out in the even the actives break. (I???ve had to replace a few in my day.) The guitarheads pickup is hard wired to the pickup so in the event it fails, you???ll have to unsolder it to replace it.

A few positive ascetics:
The guitarheads logo is embossed the same way EMG is which ensures the gold lettering will stay put for a long time. I really like to support the equipment manufacturers so knowing their name will remain is always a plus for me. Along with that, the black cover also comes in white! Yup, color choices!

Active Humbucker Pickups (Bridge/Neck set). Very High Output of over 57k Ohms. Epoxy Potted.

Replaced the Stock pickups in a Les Paul. Both the Bridge & Neck. I wanted to go for a Zakk Wylde sound, but did not want to spend big bucks on EMGs. I heard good things about these pickups from a friend, and decided to give them a try (at about 1/2 the price of EMGs).

If you play Metal, these are the pickups for you. They drive your amp hard, and are full of sustain. Harmonics jump off of the fretboard. Through my Marshall head, I did not even need to use my overdrive pedal. And for a pickup with this much output, I did not notice any more noise (hum, hiss, or feedback) than I would get with any stock pickup. However, I was still getting a little growl on my clean channel. So the only way to get a crystal clean tone was to roll back the volume knob to about 8. But I kinda expected that before hand. The tone was similar to a Gibson PAF, but with higher mids, and more punch.

I've already ordered another set. The perfect pickups if you play Super Metal. I have a large guitar collection, with pickups from many companies, and I've been playing for 20+ years. These are a great addition to my collection.
